DATA CONVERSION
Data Conversion is the core of our BPO services.
As an important industry, Data conversion business has been
changed a lot. It began
with “Data Entry”. The
following chart gives a simplified history of our data conversionservice.
Among the (3) types of data conversion work, OCR and
Tagging/Formatting
are taking bigger and bigger proportion.
However keying business is still big and keeps growing because
we are doing more and more keying work from handwritings, forms and various languages.
 We have 3000 operators for data conversion work. Everyone of the 3000 is required to do all the three kinds of work while
specializing in one. Group 1 is skillful
for handwriting and various languages keying. Group 2 is familiar with
tagging/formatting and Group 3 does OCR with
clean-up proficiently. “Doing all while
specializing in one” results in higher productivity and being able to handle
large projects of short turnaround.
We have 150 data conversion analysts and programmers. Everyone of the 150 is specialized in a
customer or a group of customers. They
evaluate the requirement of the customer, design or request the workflow from
the customer, assign the work to operators, track the workflow step by step
with programs and submit the data to the customer. Their specialization in one customer or one
group of customers makes them qualified and efficient project managers.
The TABLE shows how we receive the source materials, what we
do and how we deliver the data. The prevailing way today is computer to computer.
Our 20 MBPS Internet band and 768 KBPS private satellite line between Beijing
and California support the
computer to computer communication. We
can do 24,17,15,6,4,2 hour turnaround time work and real time work for
customers
from US, Europe and Japan.
KEYING
Keying is labor concentrated work. It is the project manager’s task to increase the
efficiency and accuracy of keying work. He or she provides user friendly interface for keying and verifying. Character accuracy requirement no matter it
is 95%, 99%, 99.5%, 99.95%, 99.995% or 99.998% is guaranteed to satisfy. Record or field accuracy requirement is also
acceptable to us. How efficient and
reliable workflow is designed to meet the requirement tests the technical and
managing ability of a project manager. They passed the tests and continue to improve themselves to reach a
higher level.
Handwriting keying requests our operators to recognize
characters written in various styles. It
was a real challenge to them and they made it.
OCR and CLEANUP
Our project managers select OCR agents according to the language, industry type, image
quality level and design an user friendly interface for cleanup, spell check and tagging. He or she also
codes additional program to check other errors the OCR agent did not find to increase the accuracy. OCR,
cleanup/spell check, tagging and additional error check are done in a way of assembly line for higher efficiency and quality.
TAGGING/FORMATTING
Our project managers are familiar with various tagging languages such as XML,
SGML, HTML and many proprietary tagging specs. There are more and more documents
needing to be tagged and
some existing tags to be converted to a different tagging language or DTD. Programming is a
powerful tool for tagging but there is still a lot of manual tagging to be done. More programming
and less manual work is the goal of the project manager. They are on the right rail so that the
tagging work is being done by Formax BPO Beijing (FBB) more efficiently today than yesterday and tomorrow than today.
FBB has experience
in formatting (typesetting) in various environments such as MSWORD,
PageMaker, Quark Express, etc.

We have done data conversion in various languages: English, Spanish, French,
German, Italian, Swedish, Danish, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Greek.
